College Tour of Local Learning Assistance Centers and Student Support Services

12:00pm – 5:30pm
Estimated Cost: $45 per person
Limited to 24 attendees 

This tour is a CRLA pre-conference tradition and offers conference attendees the opportunity to visit various local learning centers. This year’s tour will include visiting the Tutoring and Academic Support Center (TASC) at San Francisco State University. At City College of San Francisco, attendees will visit the Learning Assistance Programs. The third stop on the tour will include the Peer Connections program at San Jose State. This tour will provide attendees with a fantastic opportunity to engage with colleagues and learn about other institutional programs and services. 

Please note: scheduled stops are subject to change based on institutional schedules and programming as well as transportation.

 

Thursday • 11/13

Alcatraz Night Tour

3:45pm – leave at your discretion (please pay close attention to the posted return ferry times once on Alcatraz Island)
Estimated Cost: $65.00 

The Alcatraz Night Tour offers a unique experience visiting the infamous former prison on Alcatraz Island. This evening tour includes a round-trip ferry ride from San Francisco’s Pier 33, a narrated history during the cruise, and an award-winning audio tour of the cellhouse. You will learn about notorious inmates and hear special presentations and stories that bring Alcatraz’s history to life under the cover of night.

Please note: the last evening tour departs from Pier 33 at 4:45pm and it is recommended you arrive at Pier 33 at least 30 minutes before departure time.  This may cause you to miss a concurrent session or another previously planned CRLA conference event.  We recommend waiting until the final CRLA schedule is released to purchase this tour.    

Please note: this tour will begin and end at the San Francisco’s Pier 33 which is an easy train ride ($3.00 each way) or about a 1.6 mile walk from the hotel. Uber, Lyft and the driverless Waymo’s are also an option. Although group transportation is not included in the ticket price, members of the CRLA conference planning team will be onsite to help with transportation needs.

Ferry Building Marketplace Tasting and Tour – 1.5 hours

The original San Francisco Ferry Building Marketplace excursion since 2004 includes local, seasonal tastes from artisans inside the beloved historic building. Food industry experts will guide our group of food lovers into the heart of the Bay Area food scene for a culinary exploration that has San Franciscans buzzing about their city's famous landmark in a whole new way.

Please note: this tour will begin and end at the San Francisco Ferry Building Marketplace which is an easy train ride ($3.00 each way) or about a mile walk from the hotel.  Uber, Lyft and the driverless Waymo’s are also an option. Although group transportation is not included in the ticket price, members of the CRLA conference planning team will be onsite to help with transportation needs.

Perfect for first-time visitors or those short on time, this experience packs in the city’s highlights while offering unique local insight.

Please note: this tour takes place during scheduled conference events, including the time allotted for lunch.  The CRLA conference planning team can help with suggestions on grabbing a quick bite to eat before or after the tour.

Do not leave Northern California without a trip to wine country!  The ultimate CRLA Napa and Sonoma Wine Country Tour offers a scenic and relaxing day trip through California’s renowned wine country, featuring visits to top wineries in both regions. You’ll enjoy two guided tastings of premium wines, learn about the winemaking process, and take in the beautiful vineyard landscapes. This tour also includes a stop for lunch (not included in the ticket price) at the Sonoma Plaza.
